Honestly, this is the most comfortable set-up I've ever run.

At 6'2, the stock bar/riser combo left me too hunched over and it'd get uncomfortable after about 100mi - the apes keep me upright and I can go all day without any discomfort, etc. Wind noise is a completely different story, but it's never bothered me.

Longest I've done in a single day is ~800mi (1200km)

The 16" apes put the bars right at shoulder level. Combined with the factory forward controls, it's a very natural riding position (for me).

Good to know. The stock bars on mine make me a little uncomfortable as I too have to hunch over a bit.

You'll appreciate the upgrade, easily the best mod I've ever done.

Second was painting the motor - gives my '06 a much more modern look.

You ever check out xlforum? It's a wealth of knowledge for these bikes.

A little bit. Haven't really done any modding to this bike. I have lots of ideas just haven't gotten around to executing them yet. Love the painted motor that's been on my short list as well! What kind of pipes are you running? That will be my first mod for sure.

I just have the Screaming Eagle II slip-ons that the previous owner had the dealer add - I'll be switching them out over the winter when I do an S2 rejet. I'll most likely end up with the V&H long shots or the Patriot Defender, still unsure. I'm in the process of blacking out the thing so whatever I end with has to be black.

I'd stay away from the V&H short shots - they're a really popular option because they look and sound badass, but they rob you of low end power. Just a tip.

I also want to black mine out. I was probably going to do the el cheapo mod and paint the stock pipes with black epoxy paint and just drill out the baffles. 700 bucks for pipes just seams crazy expensive to me.
